Manitoba hospitals don't have capacity to do their own testing, Dynacare official says

Dynacare's chief medical officer says Manitoba hospitals don't even have the capacity to deal with their own testing, after being asked whether the province's public health system could handle the lab company's work.

Dr. Jenisa Naidoo said Thursday some of the lab work that's supposed to be done in provincial health-care facilities is being sent to the private company.

Her statement is "not based on [Shared Health's] information. It's based on the fact that we get the work," Naidoo said during a Manitoba Labour Board hearing that will determine whether Dynacare workers provide an essential service.

Dementia patient found face down in puddle in another neighbourhood after leaving Winnipeg home, lawsuit says

A company that provides residential care to people with complex behavioural health issues is being sued after a man with a mental disability was allegedly left unsupervised and walked away from the home unaccompanied.

The man, now 38, was diagnosed with dementia and was living at a residential apartment complex in Winnipeg, operated by Cambridge Health Inc., with 24-hour behavioural care services and supervision.

He was not to leave the home unless accompanied by a staff member or a designated family member. The man was in a common area at about 4:30 p.m. on April 3, 2025, when "he was left unsupervised and walked out of the Cambridge home," the lawsuit says.
