Winnipeg to host North American Indigenous Games for 1st time since 2002

The North American Indigenous Games are scheduled to return to Winnipeg for the first time in over 25 years, as Norway House Cree Nation and the Southern Chiefs' Organization have been selected to host the event in 2028.

More than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team officials from more than 750 First Nations across the continent are expected to travel to Winnipeg for the competitions, a Thursday news release from the event's governing council said.

The 2028 games are scheduled to run in Winnipeg from July 9 to 23. They've only been held in Manitoba once, when they were hosted in Winnipeg in 2002.
